MISSION

Martha’s Foundation will provide a safe supervised family-centered home for first-time teen mothers ages thirteen to eighteen and to assist them in becoming educated, independent and productive community members.

Purpose

Our purpose is to educate and transform the lives of first-time teen mothers by providing supportive and nurturing resources that empower them to complete their education, provide parenting skills and embrace a life that is self-sufficient.

Behind the Organization

Myrtle Watson , a native of Georgetown, Guyana, South America knew from an early age, she wanted to help people. So, she attended the Mackenzie School of Nursing from 1965 to 1969 where she obtained her Registered Nurse Midwifery certification. This training led to a very fulfilling and extremely rewarding career in practicing maternal child health nursing for the past 47 years.

For almost 25 years, Myrtle worked for the Margaret Hudson Program, an alternate school program for pregnant and parenting teens. In her role as a Maternal/ Child Nurse Case Manager and Educator, she enjoyed her daily encounters with her clients, learning to never judge a book by its cover. She admired the strength, courage, and resilience of these young women. To fulfill this commitment, Myrtle started a 501c-3 nonprofit organization, Martha’s Foundation in memory of her mother, who taught her to be compassionate at an early age. The mission of this foundation is to provide residential living for first time teen mothers ages 13 to 18 who need a safe family centered environment while pursuing a formal education.
